"Worst Computer... EVER!"
A discussion in IRC led me to create this thread.
I have, in my possession as my daily-use computer, quite possibly the worst laptop in the world.
Nearly every single part has broken on this Dell E1505.
The List of Issues (As they Arose) are:
Problem: It has a Semi-Decent Graphics Card for a 4-year-old laptop. An ATI-X1400 (crappy compared to todays standards.) Also an Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 (dual core 1.66ghz) The problem is that if I want a new laptop, most are a downgrade (onboard VGA or some really-really crappy Video Card) unless I'm spending $750+
- Factory Hard Disk Crapped out 9-months into use. Bought a new one
- The DVD Drive wouldn't Eject, Bought a new one for like $30
- Both Hinges Cracked, the Right one more so. I jerry rigged a fix for them.
- Motherboard Died (Probably the DC-Jack) Bought a new MoBo
- LED Inverter Board Died (No Backlight.) Bought a new Inverter
- New Motherboard's RAM slot screwed up (Nothing can be in the second RAM Slot or the Laptop Won't Boot. Tested Different RAM chips to verified this)
- As a Consequence to this, I had to upgrade from 2x1gb chips to one 2GB chip.
- The new 2GB Chip, A Corsair, has memory errors. my laptop will BSOD 2 times a day and randomly crash firefox about 20 times.
- Above picture has the Mozilla Crash Reporter window open
- I've replaced the Keyboard Twice
- Once the Keyboard Stopped Working Altogether
- Second time, the left shift key stopped working. It's impossible for me to work without the left shift key.
- The Fan for the CPU / Videocard Assembly Died. Bought a new one.
- The LCD Screen now has 4 vertical lines on it... Two on both extremes, one White one at 10% and the other, a cyan line, at 70%.
- I'm on my fourth Charger (and this one, you can see the wires already fraying)
- The left speaker is blown.
- The Paint is completely worn down where I lay my palms
- Both Rear USB ports are cracked and destroyed
Edit: Since then, the motherboard decided to no longer power the battery I just replaced, because it wouldn't hold a charge.
I had 3 hours of life left out of my laptop when I realized what happened. I tried different chargers but it didnt take. Tried Different Batteries, No Go. It died shortly before Christmas.
