My biggest complaint with my Lenovo Y550 is the tragic placement of the Function Key. On nearly every other brand of computer, the bottom-leftmost key is the Ctrl key, with the Fn key to it's right. Lenovo decided to switch things up and piss everyone off by swapping these two keys. Fortunately, there now exists a simple BIOS flash to fix this dilemma (yes, right about the same time you got used to it, I bet.)
This procedure will explain in 5 easy-peasy steps how to Swap the Fn and Ctrl Keys for the Lenovo y550
Step 1: Download Lenovo_Y550_BIOS_update_(V2.05).zip from here and extract it to somewhere on your computer.
FILE: Lenovo_Y550_BIOS_update_(V2.05).zip
SIZE: 6,984,493 bytes
SHA-1: 2D678C526C4C52F351B25CB838A70BEAB509D525
Step 2: Browse to the folder corresponding to your current OS's architecture (32 or 64-bit. If you're unsure, go with 32)
Step 3: Run WinPhlash.exe or WinPhlash64.exe
Step 4: "Ensure the Backup BIOS and Flash BIOS with new settings" radial is selected. Click browse and browse your computer for the Modified BIOS file known as FN-CTRL_15CN32WW(V2.05).wph
Step 5: Click on Flash BIOS and leave the computer to do it's thing for a minute or two. It may force a restart or it may suggest one, I'd restart it anyway.
Voila! Have fun getting used to the swap once again. If you would like to revert this effect, follow the same steps, substituting the file in step 4 with 15CN32WW(V2.05).wph
Note: If you haven't already, this will upgrade your BIOS to the latest version (currently 2.05) and when newer versions come out I will publish the fix for them. If a new version has been released and I have not made an update to this thread, please message me and I will get on that like stink on a monkey.
Addendum: This Guide was rewritten from it's original author, Middleton from the lenovo forums.
